Similar to paint splattered on a canvas, NoCap splashes all of his pain, anxiety, stress, trouble, trauma, and truth onto the beat. Instead of manically utilizing a brush, he freestyles off the top of his head, channeling emotion too intense to overthink. The multiplatinum Mobile, AL maverick rapper and singer synthesizes melody out of discord and darkness, resonating on an intimate level with fans worldwide. Stacking up hundreds of millions of streams and views, selling out shows, and notching widespread acclaim, he cuts deeper than ever and unearths more of himself on his 2024 album, Before I Disappear Again [Atlantic Records].

“I’m growing up,” he observes. “I could be a different man in 2025. I’m just always trying to be a better artist. People don’t get to see a lot of me, but they do see me through my music. My fans will hear how I’m changing, and they’re with me. They’re moving as I move, because I’m never going to stop growing and learning.”

Carving out a place of his own in the culture, his songs have stuck to a generation. He sent shockwaves through the game with a string of celebrated mixtapes, including The Backend Child [2019], The Hood Dictionary [2019], and Steel Human [2020]. He catapulted into the Top 5 of the Billboard Top R&B Hip-Hop Albums Chart and Top Rap Albums Chart in addition to crashing the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 with his full-length debut LP , Mr. Crawford [2022]. He served up a pair of platinum-certified singles— “Ghetto Angels” and “Vaccine” —as well as showing out on gold-certified bangers such as Lil Baby’s “Dreams 2 Reality, ” “New Ones” [with Quando Rondo], and Youngboy Never Broke Again’s “Outta Here Safe.” Not to mention, he cracked the Hot 100 by featuring on Rylo Rodriguez’s “Thang For You.” Receiving tastemaker praise, The FADER applauded his “teeth-gritting images of struggle,” and Pitchfork hailed his music as “both deeply personal and invitingly vague, somber and triumphant in equal measure."

Throughout 2024, he put the finishing touches on Before I Disappear Again with clear intent.

“Every time I drop, my vision is to always capture a bigger fan base,” he notes. “I want each project to better than the last. There’s a lot of versatility. I was moving around a lot, and I was making music everywhere I went. I called it Before I Disappear Again, because everybody knows I’ve been off the scene for a little minute. I wanted to show it’s still unpredictable, and there ain’t no telling what happens after this drops.”

He initially paved the way for this body of work with standouts “Baby Drake” and “Yacht Party.” The latter saw him transfix with loose and pliable bars spit over intentionally “drum-less” production. “It gave me a lot of confidence,” he notes. Elsewhere, “Celean” [feat. Quavo] grafts his wavy flow to skittering 808s punctuated by strains of piano. A chant rings out, “Don’t take it for granted,” as Quavo mourns Takeoff— “Pain in my eyes about my nephew.”

“I initially recorded it in Houston,” recalls NoCap. "I reached out to Quavo, and he sent his verse back right away. It’s one of my favorites. He matched the energy on the song.”

The opener “Champain” sets the tone for the project with the pomp and circumstance of soaring strings and a throwback piano loop. NoCap’s voice echoes, “It’s kind of easier to tell you that I’m one of a kind.”

“It’s opening vibes,” he says. “It’s a big moment, and it feels like a celebration. I’m stepping out of my rap bag because it’s a no drums song.”

He links up with longtime collaborator Rylo Rodriguez on the fiery flex of “Invoice” and epic “Greece or Sweden.” Elsewhere, Sleepy Hallow pulls up to throw down on “Bridge In London,” and French Montana infuses “Cat Piss” with his uncanny energy. Before I Disappear Again concludes with “Front Row.” The dreamy instrumental underscores his raw emotion as he urges, “Tell me your struggle—all the shit that you done been through.”

“It’s one of the last songs I made,” he says. “It was a lonely night in Atlanta, and I was venting and getting that old classic NoCap struggle vibe."

In the end, NoCap extracts light out of pain.

“Everyone ain’t like me in the world,” he leaves off. “This album is not just for the streets; it’s for everyone. I just want to make as many people happy as possible with my music.”
